Brainspotting

Brainspotting is a powerful therapeutic technique that helps you address emotional blocks, unresolved trauma, and deep-seated patterns that may be affecting your mental health. By targeting specific "brainspots" or eye positions, Brainspotting allows us to access and process these emotional patterns, providing relief from stress, anxiety, and past trauma. Whether you're struggling with feelings from past experiences or facing present emotional challenges, Brainspotting helps to release emotional tension and promote mental clarity. This therapeutic tool allows you to heal and regain a sense of emotional balance, empowering you to move forward in your life.

Integrative Trauma Therapy

Martin has been trained by Dr. Gordon Barclay in "Towards Dialectical Self" (known as TDS) trauma therapy (Gordon Barclay 2022), a relational, embodied, integrative therapy. It has been developed to work effectively with trauma and dissociation.

About TDS:
The initial focus of TDS is on ‘reflecting and responding’; developing an awareness of our habitual patterns of relating to the world, to others, and to ourselves. This leads on to meeting the desired intention; to either change or modify these adaptive behaviour patterns.

A key feature of TDS is recognising and working sensitively with the hurt, pain, and shame which lies at the root of these habitual, unhelpful patterns, viewing them as protective reactive responses which inadvertently interfere with our ability to reach our true potential. The supportive connections and development of additional internal resources make it possible to explore and remember safely and effectively thoughts, images, sensations, and feelings we have often had to push away, forget, or displace. (Please note that such remembering is approached with great care.)

A distinctive aspect of the TDS model is working initially through the vulnerability which can arise in the context of generating internal feelings of warmth of connection, before then engaging with more difficult feelings which often relate to what has happened, or indeed not happened, in the past.

EMDR Therapy

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a highly effective therapeutic approach designed to help individuals process and heal from traumatic memories and emotional distress.

EMDR uses a structured eight-phase approach to reprocess negative experiences by stimulating the brain through bilateral eye movements or other forms of rhythmic stimulation. This process helps to "re-wire" the brain, allowing individuals to reframe their traumatic memories and reduce the emotional charge associated with them.

EMDR is particularly beneficial for people dealing with trauma, PTSD, anxiety, or unresolved grief. By processing these emotions and memories in a safe and supportive environment, EMDR helps individuals gain a sense of relief, restore emotional balance, and improve their overall mental health. It empowers clients to break free from the emotional weight of past experiences, allowing them to move forward with greater resilience, clarity, and peace.

CBT

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a widely recognised and evidence-based therapeutic approach that focuses on the connection between our thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.

CBT helps individuals identify and challenge negative or unhelpful thought patterns that may contribute to emotional distress, anxiety, depression, or other mental health challenges. Through practical techniques, clients learn to reframe their thinking and develop healthier coping strategies, leading to lasting changes in both mindset and behaviour.

CBT is especially effective for those struggling with anxiety, depression, stress, OCD, and other common mental health concerns. By providing tools to manage negative thought patterns, CBT empowers individuals to gain greater control over their emotions and reactions, ultimately improving their overall mental well-being and quality of life.

Testimonials

Name: L

Service Provided: Brainspotting

"I started seeing Martin after I heard about brainspotting as a possible treatment for PTSD and it has proved to be transformational, in processing my unwanted memories of childhood sexual abuse.

Since starting this process I have found my fear levels and hyper vigilance decreasing and I am becoming more aware of my behaviour/coping strategies which in the past have always been based around my fear. I have also suffered verbal abuse from internal voices for many years and now that I understand why they developed and what they are trying to achieve, they have thankfully begun to lose their power. Which is a great relief.

During the time I have been seeing Martin, I have found him to be a non judgemental, kind and compassionate man, who through his work, provides a safe and secure environment for me to continue working through my challenges."
